Is Moling Right for My Property?

    What is Moling?

Moling is a trenchless method of laying pipes underground. A pneumatic piercing tool — often called a 'mole' — is driven through the soil to create a bore, allowing new water, gas, or drainage pipes to be installed without digging trenches across your property.

    When Moling Works Best

Moling is ideal for replacing old lead or galvanised water mains, extending pipe runs to outbuildings, and laying new drainage under lawns, paths, or driveways. It works well in most soil types including clay, sand, and loam.

When Moling Might Not Be Suitable

Rocky or heavily compacted ground can make moling difficult. If the pipe route crosses multiple services (gas, electric, telecoms), traditional trenching with hand-digging may be safer. We always carry out a site survey before recommending the best method.

    The Cost Advantage

Because moling avoids digging and reinstating surfaces, it's typically faster and cheaper than traditional trenching — especially for longer runs. You also save on the cost of replacing paving, turf, or landscaping.
